It's easy for climate tech startups to expect that with good empirical results, a big corporate purchase will soon follow. However, the buyerWhat is the reduction rate?Just don't ask. We look at what boundaries and periods the numbers come from, whether they can be applied to other sites, whether data can be manipulated or disappeared, whether the supplier can operate for a long period of time, and even what phrases can be used in advertisements and announcements.

Evidence Package is not a collection of papers, patents, and product introductions in one folder. A bundle of reviews linking technical, field, carbon, data, security and commercial evidence to support your claims and purchasing decisions. A good package does not provide good answers to all questions, but distinguishes between confirmed facts, remaining uncertainties, application limitations and supplementary plans.

First misconception: More certificates are enough proof of purchase

A patent refers to the scope of rights for a specific invention, but is not proof that the product has achieved its target performance at the customer site. Equipment certification can demonstrate that established safety and compliance requirements have been met, but it does not automatically prove the causality and magnitude of carbon reductions. Although a business agreement can show a cooperative relationship, it does not mean the same thing as paid introduction, completion of verification, or renewal of contract.

Each document answers different questions. Buyers understand the difference and need suppliers to provide evidence of differentProven solutionIf you combine it with the expression, it can actually feel dangerous. Patents, test results, field verification, customer acquisition, greenhouse gas verification, security evaluation and commercial contracts must be displayed separately.

Evidence Package makes the final argument backwards.

The sentence the customer wantsContract farmers' low-methane feed program contributes to reducing supply chain emissionsIf so, first share the evidence required by this sentence. It must be confirmed whether actual feed was fed to the target herd, whether the farm is included in the customer's supply chain, whether emission changes are calculated using the same boundaries and methods, whether they are distinguished from other operational changes, and whether the customer's inventory calculation method reflects this change. Whether this performance can be reflected in the customer's Scope 3 inventory must be evaluated within the GHG accounting policy and reporting boundaries approved by the customer, and, if necessary, subject to independent accounting and legal review.

IFRS S2 requires companies to disclose their governance, strategy, risk management, indicators and targets for managing climate-related risks and opportunities, and also covers Scope 3 emissions. This is not a specification that directly provides a checklist for purchasing a specific solution, but it provides a context for large companies to require not only numbers but also controls, methods and traceable data from their suppliers. You must also check the GHG Protocol and the laws and systems applicable to customers.

First Pack: Claims and Coverage

Place a one-page Claim Register at the beginning. Write down what the product measures and what it does not, the differences between concentration monitoring and mass emissions estimation, and the differences between reduction activities and verified reductions. Each claim is associated with the target audience, farm/hoard/herd boundaries, time period, units, evidence status, and approver.

Application limits are also listed in the same table. We reveal whether additional models are needed for naturally ventilated livestock, whether quality flags are raised when the temperature and humidity or concentration are outside a certain range, and the range of feeds, livestock species, and regions supported.Applicable anywhereRather than the same broad phrase, phrases with a clear proven scope allow for faster purchase review.

Bundle 2: Technology and Field Performance

Product architecture, sensor principle, measurement range, response time, calibration procedure, cross-response, environmental durability and installation requirements are provided. Distinguish between manufacturer specifications, in-house testing, and accredited testing laboratory results. If the software and AI correct the results or determine an abnormality, the input, output, learning/verification scope, version, human review, and alternative procedures in case of failure are explained.

In field demonstration, design is more important than number of farms. Includes target herd, baseline, comparison method, period, data availability rate, handling of missing and outlier values, changes in number of livestock, feed, and ventilation, and uncertainty of results. It records successful sites as well as excluded periods and reasons for failed installations. Permission to disclose cases and use customer testimonials are checked separately.

Bundle 3: Carbon Accounting and Evidence Chain

Measurement plans, project boundaries, baselines, calculation formulas, applied emission factors/GWP, intensity, leakage or project emissions, uncertainty and conservatism rules are provided.raw → correction → aggregate → reduction amount → reported valueThe data lineage must be reproducible in a single sample. It also includes the calculation code and coefficient version, change date, and approval history.

ISO 14064-3 provides principles and requirements for verification and validation of greenhouse gas claims. However, the supplier's internal quality review and independent third-party verification are not indicated as the same. If verified, the verification subject, scope, standards, level of assurance, materiality, target period and limitations of opinion are presented in the original text. Results verified by only a few farms are not extended to the entire customer base.

Bundle 4: Data, Security and Operations

IT and security teams at large corporations can check data flow diagram, storage location, access rights, encryption, backup, preservation/deletion, incident response, and subprocessors. Field devices must account for default passwords, remote access, signed updates, asset lists, end-of-support, and offline recovery procedures. NIST's OT Security Guidelines and IoT Device Cybersecurity Basic Competencies serve as references for structuring this question.

Even if there are a lot of security documents, they are insufficient without actual operational evidence. Prepare recent recovery test results, permission review records, vulnerability processing deadlines, device firmware status, and incident contact information. Modifications to data must remain in a new version and reason, not overwriting the original data. Validation agencies are provided with the necessary lineage in a read-only manner and are not given the right to change operational settings.

Bundle Five: Commercial and Supplier Risk

Purchasing teams look not only at price, but also total cost of acquisition, installation time, underwriting criteria, service levels, warranties, insurance, intellectual property rights, data rights and termination support. We distinguish between hardware, deployment, subscription, site visit, verification and external institutional fees. It also explains how the unit price changes when adding a farm or changing the scope.

Answer questions about financial condition and continuity of operations to the extent verifiable. Provide support personnel, spare parts, core parts supply, failure response, and business continuity plans, but do not state future sales or investment attraction as if it is a confirmed fact. If only one engineer is responsible for all installation and analysis, documentation and replacement staffing plans must be demonstrated.

On-Site Scenario: Why the 12% Reduction Slide Stopped Buying

a virtual supplier12% reduction in methaneLet's assume you submitted an empirical slide called . The buyer's technical team asks whether the sensor measures ppm or kg CH₄, and the ESG team requests baseline and production calibration. The IT team checks in which country the data is stored in the cloud, and the legal team asks about rights to farm data and reduction results. If the supplier sends different files and different numbers for each question, it may stop you from purchasing even if the empirical results are good.

The Evidence Package links these queries together. If 12% is a tentative concentration change, mark it as such and separate it from the mass reduction claim. Calculation lineage from raw data samples to reports, sensor calibration, farm consent, security controls and contractual claims are provided in the same index. In the remaining spaces, write supplementary measures and completion dates. Not hiding uncertainty can increase trust more than data that appears flawless.

Adjust the depth at each stage of purchase

The initial exploration phase requires a publicly available one-page outline, scope of argument, and representative examples. In the technical review stage, we provide a test report, architecture, measurement plan, and verification appendix. The security, legal and purchasing stages include detailed data flow, entitlements, contracts, insurance and service level data. Pilot acquisition and scale-up phases require actual operational KPIs, findings, revision history and scale-up costs.

Sending all materials at the first meeting may unnecessarily expose trade secrets and personal information. Access levels are divided into public data, data after confidentiality agreements, restricted data rooms, and data exclusively for verification agencies. The owner, version, reference date, approval status, and disclosure scope are displayed for each document.

The wording of environmental claims is also subject to legal review. The UK's CMA's Green Claims Code guidance explains that environmental claims must be based on evidence that is robust, reliable and up-to-date, and that wider and more ambitious claims may be more difficult to prove. Separately check the consumer protection and advertising rules of the applicable market, and ensure that restrictions on technical data do not disappear from marketing phrases.

execution checklist

  1. Have you first defined the final argument the customer wants to make after purchasing?

  2. Have you distinguished between patents, certification, testing, verification, verification and customer acceptance?

  3. Have you associated boundaries, time periods, units, evidence status, and limitations for each claim?

  4. Are representative site baselines, missingness, confounding factors and uncertainties disclosed?

  5. Can one piece of raw data be reproduced up to the final reported value?

  6. Have you distinguished the subject, scope, and level of internal review and independent verification?

  7. Are there data flow, access rights, retention/deletion and incident response documentation?

  8. Have you defined separate service levels for installation, stabilization, operation and verification?

  9. Are data, reduction performance, marketing, and credit rights separated from the contract?

  10. Does each material have an owner, version, reference date, approval, and scope of disclosure?

  11. Did you use unconfirmed customer numbers, sales, reduction performance and certification status?

  12. Are there cost and operational KPIs needed to determine expansion after the pilot?

conclusion

When large corporations buy climate tech solutions, they don’t just buy technical performance. We operationalize its performance, calculate carbon figures, and even assess the risks that arise when linking it to internal controls and disclosures or environmental claims. So just collecting a lot of patents, test reports and empirical graphs is not enough.

A good Evidence Package traces backwards from final arguments to raw field records and makes clear the questions and limitations that each document answers. When technology, carbon, data, security and commercial terms are linked in the same version and accountability system, buyers can determine what has been confirmed and what needs to be further confirmed in the pilot. It's reviewable evidence and honest coverage, not the biggest reduction numbers, that expedite large corporate purchases.
